We’re taking our Vision Van on the road again for National Eye Health Week 2017
Myopia, how to be screen smart, glaucoma, nutrition and smoking – these are just a few of the eye health conditions and lifestyle factors being profiled for this year’s National Eye Health Week.
As official partner to the awareness campaign, which launches today (Monday 18th September) and runs until Sunday 24th September, we’re once again highlighting how important it is to have regular eye tests to maintain good vision and overall wellbeing.
So, we’re taking our Vision Van on the road again, for its tenth tour, four years after it was debuted during National Eye Health Week 2014. This is a very proud realisation for all of us who have worked tirelessly on our Vision Van campaigns – driving the length and breadth of the UK during supported awareness weeks to help share our Vision, Taken Seriously key messages and driven, as always, by our commitment to improving the nation’s eye health.
Between 18th – 22nd September, we’re starting our tour on home soil in Nottingham, followed by Milton Keynes, Portsmouth, Swindon and Cardiff. Areas have again been chosen based on higher than average statistics surrounding eye conditions such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration, alongside lifestyle factors including prevalence of smoking and poor nutrition.
And, to really push our key messages home, we’re sharing the real-life case studies of some of our very brave and inspiring customers, who have opened-up about their eye health experiences.
Rachel Thomas, a mother of three from Bridgend hadn’t had an eye test for 11 years, before a free voucher in the mail prompted her to pop into her local Vision Express store. A spot at the back of her eye during the routine eye test, led to an immediate referral and further hospital investigation, she was then diagnosed with a tumour – which was quickly treated. Rachel was thankful for the quick diagnosis and now passionately encourages others to have regular eye tests – even being interviewed by her local radio station last week, highlighting how valuable a quick sight check had been in securing her future with her family.
It’s stories like Rachel’s which highlight just how important regular testing is and why, as a company, we remain committed to putting eye health front of mind for everyone. Recent statistics show there are two million people in the UK living with sight loss, half of which is preventable, yet, just over half of adults in the UK only visit an optician every five years – we are dedicated to changing that.
